Troubleshooting

Styles not working

Update to the Latest Version

Before contacting support, it's best to update to the latest version of the plugin. We might have already fixed the issue you're having.

The update notice appears on your Plugins page; click View details to see what changed. If updates don't appear, see Update issues.

Make sure the free version isn't active

If the free Design Upgrade for LearnDash is active alongside Pro, its stylesheet loads instead of Pro's, and most of your Customizer settings have no effect. There's no warning. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins, then deactivate and delete the free version.

Clear Your Server & Browser Cache

Sometimes you might need to clear your cache to see the correct styles. There are two main types of cache:

  • Server Cache: This is done at the server level, typically by your host and/or a performance or caching plugin. Look in the top black bar in your admin area for some type of cache or performance options. If you can't find it there, you can also login to your hosting control panel and usually clear your server cache from there. If you can't find it, ask your host.
  • Browser Cache: This is specific to each individual who is viewing your site. Navigate to your browser's settings and clear the cache. You can do a quick search for "clear chrome browser cache" or "clear safari browser cache" for instructions.

Reset LearnDash Color Settings

If you've changed LearnDash's own Accent Color, it overrides Design Upgrade Pro's Primary Hue. Clear LearnDash's color settings as described in Before you start.

Remove Styles in Appearance > Customize > LearnDash Styles

Starting with LearnDash 4.15, there are new styling options in the Customizer. These are found in Appearance > Customize > LearnDash Styles. In some cases, our plugin will override these styles, but if you're having an issue with our styles not applying, please check to make sure you've removed any styles you may have set here.

CSS Concatenation

If your styles are not being applied, or if some styles are working but others are not, sometimes the issue is with concatenation (aka: combining) of CSS files. This is a common feature of performance plugins, as well as some hosts. For example, by default, wordpress.com hosting will concatenate CSS scripts in an effort to improve your site's performance.

When our plugin's main CSS file gets concatenated, it is loaded before the LearnDash CSS file. This means that some of LearnDash's default styles will override ours.

How to fix

If you're using a performance plugin, look to see if it is concatenating CSS files. If so, you should consider disabling this feature entirely. With most quality hosting companies, combining all your CSS files could actually be worse for performance.

If you don't want to do this, you might have an option to exclude specific files from concatenation, while still concatenating all the others. You can add ldx-design-upgrade-learndash to the list of CSS files to exclude.

If you're hosting with wordpress.com, navigate to this page to add the exclusion:

yoursite.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=page-optimize
The WordPress.com hosting CSS setting: Concatenate styles is ticked, with Design Upgrade's stylesheet added to the exclusion list.

Theme Conflict

Another reason why styles might not be appearing correctly is because of a theme conflict. Some themes might have written CSS that overrides ours. This can vary greatly between each theme, and each user's specific site setup. See Theme compatibility, or contact support so we can look at your site.
